What is a Duvet?

 Comforters Comforters and Duvets are constructed in basically the same way. Two layers of material with an insulating material such as down or poly fill in between, sewn closed on all four sides and then sewn in a pattern to keep the fill material from moving and clumping. This is where the similarity ends. Although duvets can be made of colorful or patterned material, they are generally a plain or off white. The real difference will now be made clear. The duvet cover is sewn on three sides only with the fourth side open and closeable by a zipper or buttons. You can slip either a duvet or a comforter inside the duvet cover. The advantage is that rather than having to wash and dry or dry clean the entire item such as is the case in the comforter by itself. With the duvet cover you can simply clean the duvet cover and then slip the duvet or comforter back inside it. This also enables you to use the same duvet cover with thicker or thinner duvets or comforters depending on the time of the year. This means that you can have the same design but warmer or lighter to suit your needs. |
