Artwork is often the final decorating touch in a room. As one of the elements that can bring a room together, art brings interest and color to the wall spaces, provides a focal point, and generally livens up the place. Artwork is one of the elements that can instantly warm up a space and make it feel like home. Art can expand a space both visually and emotionally, add color, and infuse welcome doses of personality and interest in a room.
Tips for Choosing & Hanging Artwork
One large painting can make a statement and keeps things simple. It can also call attention to the focal point of the room. When hanging art over a piece of furniture it should not be longer than the width of the furniture.
In general, artwork should be hung so that the center point of the picture or grouping is at about eye level for the average person. One tip suggests to always hang your art at 57" on center. "On center" means that the middle of the picture is at 57". Interestingly, the 57" standard represents the average human eye-height and is regularly used as a standard in many galleries and museums.
The simplest way to create a grouping is on the floor. This gives you the chance to arrange and re-arrange without making holes in your walls.
