Goose Down Comforters are available in three (3) different thread count fabric coverings which consist of 300, 420, 900. The squares are 13" x 13" baffles.

Down is the lightest, most effective insulator known to man. Down clusters are made up of light, fluffy filaments that expand and intertwine to form air pockets. Down is a natural product that regulates warmth and allows you to maintain your natural body temperature. A down comforter will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer for year round comfort. Goose down is the most popular down for use in down comforters.

Fill Power

The measurement of the quality of the down. The higher the fill power, the fluffier the comforter. The benefit is that less down is needed to fill the comforter, resulting in lightweight year round warmth. Look for down comforters with a fill power of at least 550. More luxurious quality down comforters will have a fill power of at least 600.

Construction

Baffle Wall Construction- The finest quality Luxury Down Comforters will be of baffle wall construction. Baffling or baffle wall refers to sewn in cloth walls which help keep the down from shifting and prevent cold spots.

Hypo Allergenic- Down that has gone through a series of steps to remove all the impurities, dirt and dander, will be noted as hypoallergenic or allergy free. Most people are not allergenic to down, but rather, to the impurities within the down. Not all Down Comforters are hypoallergenic.

Thread Count- The number of threads per square inch of fabric. The finest quality Down Comforter Sets will have a 100% cotton cover with a thread count of at least 200. The higher the thread count, the more durable and softer the cover. The higher thread count covers protect down from impurities as well as keep the down inside the comforter.

100% Cotton Covers- A cotton cover will be breathable, lending to the insulation and fluffiness of the comforter.

The need to redistribute the fill in your Down Comforter is a natural occurrence not a defect.

Simply redistribute the Down by shaking it toward the area where you want it, or by laying the comforter on a flat surface and pushing the Down to that area.

What is Fill Weight and why are there different Seasons of down comforters?

Fill Weight is the amount of fill, including down and all other materials, which are inside of the comforter. Fill weight is usually measured in ounces. We offer different Seasons of down comforters, which literally means we sell the same comforters but in different Fill Weights. We do this because a person in Florida or California might not desire a down comforter as heavy as someone in Massachusetts or Colorado. The only difference in the Seasons of comforters is the Fill Weight.

How does Fill Weight correlate with Fill Power?

This is a common misconception by down comforter consumers. There is no real correlation between Fill Weight and Fill Power. Fill Power is the measurement of the quality of down. Fill Weight is simply how many ounces of material are in the comforter. More Weight does not mean the comforter has more insulation. Rather, the Fill Power determines the comforter’s insulation power; higher Fill Power equals more insulation. Different Seasons do not mean different insulation power, for the Seasons determine how heavy the comforter weighs. All Seasons in a given line have the same insulation power and weigh differently.

What are Baffle Walls and how do they operate?

Our down comforters come with True Baffle Construction. The only places where the top and bottom comforter cover touch are the four edges of the comforter. The top and bottom halves of the comforter do not touch in the middle of product. Rather, there are strips of fabricate called Baffle Walls that connect the top and bottom halves. Imagine a squared shaped honeycomb; the two sides do not touch because of vertical walls. Our comforters are built like this to allow the down to expand to its maximum level, making your down comforter as fluffy as possible. Furthermore, because the Walls are sewn directly into the top and bottom halves, the Walls block the down from moving into another Baffle Box, which prevents clumping at any given spot of the comforter.
